Comprehensive care for breast cancer patients with evidence-based treatment protocols.
Breast cancer begins when abnormal cells in breast ducts or lobules grow unchecked. Over time, these cells can form a lump, invade surrounding tissue, and spread (metastasize) to lymph nodes or distant organs. Early detection saves lives.
Symptoms
- New lump or thickening in the breast or underarm.
- Change in breast size, contour, or asymmetry.
- Skin puckering, dimpling, redness, or peau d’orange (orange-peel texture).
- Nipple inversion, crusting, scaling, or bleeding.
- Nipple discharge—especially bloody or clear.
- Persistent breast pain (less common but should be checked if new).
Diagnosis
Dr. Joshi promotes screen-early, diagnose-right. Workup may include:
- Clinical breast exam.
- Screening mammography (age & risk dependent).
- Diagnostic mammogram + breast ultrasound for suspicious findings.
- Core needle biopsy / vacuum-assisted biopsy to confirm cancer type.
- Core needle biopsy / vacuum-assisted biopsy to confirm cancer type.
- Genetic testing (BRCA and others) for high-risk patients/families.
- Staging scans when needed (CT, PET-CT, bone scan).
Treatment
Treatment is multidisciplinary. Dr. Joshi coordinates with breast surgeons, radiation oncologists, and reconstructive experts.
- Surgery – lumpectomy (breast-conserving) or mastectomy, with sentinel lymph node biopsy.
- Chemotherapy – neoadjuvant (before surgery) to shrink tumors, or adjuvant (after surgery) to reduce recurrence.
- Hormone therapy – tamoxifen, aromatase inhibitors for ER/PR-positive disease.
- Targeted therapy – HER2-directed agents for HER2-positive cancers.
- Radiation therapy – post-surgery or for local control.
- Survivorship & late-effect care – lymphedema prevention, bone health, lifestyle guidance.
Self-Check Reminder
Know your normal. Monthly self-awareness + age-appropriate screening helps catch breast cancer early.
